For now, look to this flyer (09.04.2023) for its claim at left column, third bullet that “Ammunition background checks will be “Denied” if state records indicate that the purchaser is legally prohibited from receiving ammunition.”

You’ll recognize the right hand column as federal disqualification factors for a firearms purchase.

So what “state records” will NYSP use for these checks? See the NSSF e-mail (08.04.2023) that the NYSP briefed them that a person may pass a firearms background check, but fail an ammunition background check.
